Divine Teaching for the Magic & Mystery of Late Autumn’s Time of November

At this time of year in the month of November, Mother Nature helps us understand the divine principles of death, regeneration, and rebirth. We South Westerners know how intensely She beckons the winds to de-leaf almost every tree bare as well as the rains and the early winter snows to wet the dry fallen leaves into nourishing compost that will provide potent nutrients for Her Earth beneath. When Her surface is naked of life, Her spirit surrenders fearlessly and gladly dies into the velvety soft dark of Her womb.

And when we remember to cease our usual pace to drink in the moments of Her mysterious ways during this entrancing month, we can’t miss watching the wind spirits blow the leaves into a myriads of dance-like spiraling movements or feel the presence of frost ice in the night Autumn air.

The spirited energy of this month also cuts through and cause the death of ways we have had of taking for granted what we have been given. Therefore, we can see why so many traditions have chosen to be in Thanksgiving during this month. Even in ancient times, The Celts engaged in a celebration called Samhaim and blazed ritual bonfires to symbolize the burning of all of their worries and problems accrued during the past year. They knew it was the time of getting rid of weaknesses and the things, which had served their purpose but were no longer relevant-of shedding what had gone before so that renewal could be seeded for the future spring.

What does late Autumn teach us?
That we have to let go of the things that no longer feed us.
That in melancholy there is a poignant beauty.
That in order to turn the page you have to find the courage to drop the dry leaves, at the cost of leaving our branch bare and cold.
Only in this way can new shoots be born one day.

It has taken me so much of my life span to awaken enough to perceive this Divinely orchestrated symphony of magic and mystery of the late Autumn’s time of November and how I can partake of it and be at home in the flow of it. For such a long time November only meant having an overwhelmingly rich meal with my family and realizing with dread and trepidation that I was going to have to be a part of the Christmas mania. I had no idea that Mother Earth’s Spirit Nature was quietly and constantly demonstrating to me so brazenly every Season the ways to find and celebrate the ‘Me’ that has always been Heavenly.

The Great Nez Pierce Chief Joseph has said, ‘You need watch how Earth Mother’s Nature be!! She be Great Spirit Mother dressed in Earth clothing. She teaches everything if you ask Her to. She gives everything you need. You must find Her, know Her, visit Her, honor Her, give heart thanks to Her many times, many days and nights.

She shines Great Spirit Mother Sky medicine to you through Her tree, stone, water, fire, plant, and mineral people and waits in deep quiet for you to come. When will you come and let Her take care of you? When you come, you will see your complex world you have built is poor substitute for Her many gifts you need.’

Let us return to Our True Mothers’ Heart as we begin to understand Her now and ask Her to take us back as Her children who have strayed and want to return.

This month offers us the gift of enhancing our inner peace, quiet time and slowing down…
to reflect and go within…

Inner Peace is more than feeling calm in difficult situations. Inner Peace is the foundation for strong effective action.
